The 2009 Wildlife Walk

Our second Friends of Wildlife Walk on Sunday the 20 th September was a great success. It was perfect day for walking and about 160 people joined us., including 80 sponsored children from five schools. We had walkers from The Ladies College – Melrose ; Hautes Capelles Primary School ; Elizabeth College Beechwood; Blanchelande Girls' College and St Martin 's Primary School.

This year we were WALKING FOR MENELIK. Menelik is a very young cheetah, rescued when he was four months old. He had been tied up for sale in the back of a shop in a dusty town on the edge of a north eastern desert in Ethiopia . He was very small and malnourished and was alternately petted and kicked. With the help of the Wildlife Authority he was finally confiscated He is now being looked after by the Born Free Foundation and it is hoped he will soon be rehomed in their new wildlife sanctuary in Ethiopia.

We were also fortunate in once again being sponsored by ATC Trustees ( Guernsey ) and Bucktrouts very kindly donated drinks and crisps.

The walk raised over £3,000 and this money will be sent to the Born Free Foundation for Menelik.
