VIRGINIA McKENNA IN GUERNSEY

Virginia McKenna and Alison Hood from the Born Free Foundation had a hectic 24 hours (including two media interviews) when they came over to talk at a lunch organised by Friends of Wildlife on the 28 th February.

The Lieutenant-Governor and Friends of Wildlife Patron, Lady Malbon, the Bailiff and Lady Rowland joined the 150 people who attended the Lunch and both Virginia and Alison spoke about their work for the Born Free Foundation and their new project in Ethiopia.

Two delightful giraffes made on very generous terms by Bruce and Simon Russell were sold, raising several thousand pounds. The total amount raised by the event was £8000. In addition Virginia McKenna signed copies of her book “The Life in my Years” raising additional funds.

In her letter to Friends of Wildlife following the lunch Virginia McKenna wrote – “The audience was generous beyond belief and the atmosphere in the room with friends was warm and enthusiastic – one could not ask for more. If there is an opportunity for you to convey our gratitude to the guests I would be most appreciative.”

We hope very much that Virginia and Alison will visit again next year to bring us up to date on what is happening with project in Ethiopia.
