The 2010 Wildlife Walk

Our third Friends of Wildlife Walk on Sunday the 26th September 2010 was another great success. It was a perfect day for walking and about 200 people joined us., including nearly 100 sponsored children from five schools. We had walkers from The Ladies College – Melrose; Hautes Capelles Primary School; Elizabeth College Beechwood; Blanchelande Girls’ College.

This year we were WALKING FOR SAFIA the lioness cub.
Safia was found chained up in a hut in Southern Ethiopia. She was being poked with sticks and pelted with rocks by children and had a badly damaged paw. She was finally released into the care of the Born Free Foundation and is now in the new Born Free Wildlife Rescue Conservation and Education Centre near Addis Ababa. Here she will be provided with lifetime care and hopefully a companion in due course.

Once again we were very fortunate in being sponsored by ATC Trustees (Guernsey) and Bucktrouts very kindly donated drinks and crisps.

The walk raised £4000 and this money has been sent to the Born Free Foundation for Safia.
